Reading Journal Week 13 - Visualizing

I know it's kinda fast, but I couldn't find a way to make it slower. It's supposed to look like when the man (Whom Katherine now Calls JB) came into the room where James Reardon, Jonah, and Jonah's parents sat talking about adoption. He appeared out of nowhere. I (surprisingly) used a word processor to make this. I didn't have a photo editing program on hand.

Here's the pdf:

Reading Journal Week 12 - Asking Questions and Wondering

Q. What does this man "James Reardon" have to do with anything? It keeps saying he's from the FBI, but what does the FBI have to do with the mysterious addoptions?
A. Didn't find one yet.
Q. A man that seemingly came out of nowhere told Jonah to look at a paper on James Reardon's desk. What for? And how did the man come out of nowhere?
A. Still don't know, but I found out that the kids are going to talk to a person that knew where or when they came from. Possibly the man Jonah saw before was a time traveler.
Q. Why is Chip always mad at his parents?
A. Because they never told him he was adopted.

Reading Journal Week 11 - Predictions

Jonah, Chip, and Katherine were looking through Chip's adoption records. One of the people that was listed as a contact was a man named James Reardon who worked for the FBI. Jonah already knew he was adopted, but wondered where. His parents decided to research where he came from before his adoption. The only person they found attached to his records was the same man, James Reardon. This man was in charge of two adoptions that happened in two different states, something weird is going on.
I think that the kids are going to meet with this James Reardon person and get some answers.

Reading Journal Week 10 - Strange Conversations/Flash Fiction

"No, you're probably thinking things. Man, you've must have hit your head hard. When we escape you've got to lay down and rest or something." said Tobias.
"No, I'm not lying. I didn't get hit, everything is true." I responded.
"Relax. Lets just escape and then we'll talk. OK?
          "OK, but please believe me."
          "Alright." He said unconvincingly.
We ran away from where we were and escaped from the facility pretty easily.
"That was too easy, things like this are never that easy." I told Tobias.
"That's right." He said. "But for now the danger seems to have passed. As I promised, you must rest."
I was about to resist, but sleep sounded so good especially next to Tobias. Tobias wasn't one of those guys that was sexy looking at first glance, and honestly, he wasn't my type. But for some reason, I really want to kiss him. Maybe it was the whole "switching bodies" thing that was doing this to me. I snuggled in next to him and fell asleep.

Reading Journal Week 9 - Strange Conversations/Flash Fiction

The man knocked Jennie down and ripped the gun from her hands. "Come on Tris, lets go." he said.
"Who are you?" I asked, not moving.
"Its me Tobias. Don't you know?." He stretched out his hand.
I shook my head as if to clear my thoughts. "Oh, yeah. Right, lets go." I said as I took his warm hand.
We ran through hallways, past doors and into ventilation shafts. "Do you know where we're going?" I asked.
"Yes. This is the way I came in to rescue you."
"Wait." I pulled him into an empty room and sat down in a chair.
"We have to go, why are you stopping?"
"I have to tell you something."
"What could be more important that escaping?"
"I'm not Tris. I am Katniss, Tris's alternate dimension counterpart. Someone did something that switched our places. I don't know why. But I know one thing, I have to get back home."
"You must have gotten hit really hard or something... Don't worry, It'll wear off."
"No, this is real. I'll prove it. Now that that's out of the way, lets run."

Reading Journal Week 8 - Strange Conversations/Flash Fiction

I stared at a pretty, blond woman wearing blue. I was holding a gun, pointed at her.
"Who are you?" I asked in a voice not entirely my own.
"You very well know who I am, Tris. I'm Jennie Matthews, but can you please lower that gun, I don't know why you would point it at me."
She just called me Tris, that other girl's name, we must have all switched places. I'll just play along for now. "You're a friend?" I didn't lower the gun.
          "Yes, of course."
"Then why would I be pointing this gun at you?"
          "Beats me. You tell me."
Then I remembered something, Tris was looking for her boyfriend, maybe... "Have you seen Tobias?"
"Who's Tobias? Wait, he's your boyfriend right? Oh, well. That was fun while it lasted, If you remember Tobias then you must remember what I did to you." She pulls out a gun, takes aim and is about to shoot, but is knocked down from behind by a man.

Reading Journal Week 7 - Strange Conversations/Flash Fiction

Then I have an idea and say, "Against who?"
"The Society, of course." she responds.
"Ah, I get it now... We all come from places where an all powerful government controls what you do, right?" I ask
          "Right." they say
"We all don't know of any other governing power besides our own, and we are all enclosed in an area. Right?"
"Right." they say again, this time looking at eachother.
"So, the only thing I can come up with is that we are all from different governments and our governments don't talk or tell us about each other."
"That makes sense, but how would you explain getting thrown here into this... whatever it is. Come to think of it, the ground here doesn't look like anything I've seen before." Tris pointed out.
"I just realized the same thing." Cassia said as I nodded along.
"Hey, how did you get here? I was looking for the love of my life, Ky, and then this green glowy thing appeared in front of me and it sucked me in and then I was here." said Cassia
"That's kinda what happened to me. I was looking for my friend Gale, when a purple orb sucked me in." I said
"This keeps getting weirder and weirder. I was looking in the Erudite stronghold for my boyfriend, Tobias, because he was captured. Then a red thing appeared and sucked me in." said Tris with fear and bewilderment in her eyes.
"Maybe... hmmm... could it be possible? Maybe, just maybe..." mumbled Cassia.
"What are you trying to say?" we asked her.
"Oh, what? Oh, yeah... I was just thinking, maybe we could be from different dimensions. You know, because of the orb thing and the weird texture of the ground here. Maybe we're from different dimensions, and the orbs are brought us to an in between place or something like that."
Then a deep voice boomed, "The quiet, less violent one is right. You are all from different dimensions, and are one and the same person."
"Who are you, and what do you want with us?" yelled Tris
"Nothing, except sending you to a place where you girls can't interfere with my plans again." he yells, his voice getting louder and deeper with every word.
Cassia tries to yell something, but then there is a blinding white flash and the next thing I know, I'm pointing a gun at a woman wearing blue.

Reading Journal Week 6 - Strange Conversations/Flash Fiction

"Why do you look exactly like me?" we all say at the same time. Then we all just stare.
The girl in white breaks the silence, "My name is Cassia, what's yours?"
          "Katniss." I say
          "Tris."The girl in black says.
"Can you stop pointing that gun at us? We don't want to hurt you." says Cassia to Tris.
"Only if she puts down her bow." she replies, talking about me. Then Cassia looks at me like I should do it. I reluctantly put down my bow and Tris does the same with her gun.
"Who are you, where are you from, and how did you guys get here?" I ask.
"I used to be Abnegation, but I transferred over to Dauntless." Tris says.
"What's Abnegation and what's Dauntless?" Cassia says.
"You don't know the faction system? Who are you people anyway? This doesn't make sense, our whole government is based on factions and you don't know what they are?" says Tris. "Are you guys working together, against me. To win me over?"
"Win you over to what? And for your information, we don't even know each other." Cassia and I said, again at the same time.
"This is starting to get creepy, we're saying the same things at the same time." we all said.
"There, we did it again!" I said.
"And who are you supposed to be?" they both asked me.
"I'm from district 12, I won the Hunger Games and became the inspiration of the rebellion." I replied
"Finally, something familiar, a rebellion. But what doesn't make any sense is that I'm the inspiration of the rebellion, not you, I don't even know who you are." says Tris
"I was just going to say the same thing." says Cassia.
We look at her and say. "You're the leader of a rebellion too?"

Reading Journal Week 5 - Strange Conversations/Flash Fiction

I woke up and looked around me. I was in a torch lit stone room. It smelled musty and the ground squished under my feet. I paced the room, thinking of how I got here and how to get out. Then all of a sudden I hear screaming and then, bam, two figures fell into the room I was in, just barely missing me because of the close quarters. The figures were out cold.
They were both girls, one was wearing all black and had a gun in her hand and the other was wearing all white and had something that looked like a compass in her hand. This reminded me that I still had my bow and arrows. That gave me the comfort of self defense just in case the girl in black decided to use her gun.
The girl in white stirred and her eyes blinked open. She frantically searched for the compass she was holding and when she realized she had it all along, she relaxed. Then she noticed me for the first time and asked, "Who are you?"
"Well, that depends on if you're willing to tell me who you are and why you're here." I respond.
          "Ok, my name is-"
The girl in black stirred which made us look her way, then her eyes opened with a start.
"What did you do to Tobias? Where is he?!" she yells, pointing the gun at us.
"I don't know what you're talking about." both the girl in white and me say at the same exact time. We look at each other with weird expression on our faces. Then it hits me, both the girl in white and the girl in black looked exactly the same. And even weirder, they both looked like me, except that I had brown hair and they had blond.

Reading Journal Week 4 - Strange Conversations/Flash Fiction

I walk toward my old house. I was supposed to meet Gale here, just to talk, about the old days. About the days before Prim's name was picked I walk into my house and find that Gale is not inside yet. I look around my house remembering when I lived here and how hard life was. Was it really a year ago? Time flies when you're safe.
I go to the kitchen and open up a cupboard. Inside, is a sheath of arrows and my prized bow. The Bow was crafted by me and made in the image of my dad's. It's beautiful... All of a sudden, I feel a gust of wind. It's different though, like something is inside the room with me. I turn around expecting to see Gale standing at the door, but instead, I see a glowing purple orb. I instinctively raise my bow toward the strange object. It glowed beckoning me to come to it. I couldn't resist. I eventually stopped trying to resist. It pulled me in, there was a white flash and I heard myself yelling, then everything was still.

Reading Journal Week 3 - Fan Fiction

As I walk away from the house, I look around me just to make sure no one is following me and I dash around a corner and into an alley. I creep behind a dumpster and feel for a handle. I pull the handle and a door slides open. I walk inside what was called the Hob.
"Hey Gale!" said Greasy Sae, "What have ya got for us today?"
The room wasn't fancy, but it had the smell of an amazing restaurant. People were sitting around the bar drinking whiskey and talking loudly.
"Nothing much, just a rare wild dog!" I said, excited.
"A dog?! Seriously? We haven't had one for over a year, how'd you kill it?"
"It was just stuck in one of my traps."
"That's it? That seems too easy..."
          "I know, that's what I thought."
"Oh well, I'd better get the pots boiling, 'cause were having dog stew tonight!"
I walked farther into the room and sat at the bar next to a guy a couple years older than me named Darius.
"Any luck with the girl?" he said.
          "Who, Katniss?" I asked, surprised.
"Yeah, who else would I be talkin 'bout."
"She doesn't bring any romantic things up when we're out hunting. It seems like she doesn't want to get married, like ever."
"If you were as awesome and attractive as me you would be fine getting her to marry you."
"Are you-- Y-you're trying to get my girl!" I yelled, mad.
          "No, I-"
"Don't make up any excuses, I-I'll show you who she'll fall for, just wait and see!"
I stormed out of the Hob and walked back home, but not before checking up on Katniss.

Reading Journal Week 2 - Fan Fiction

I walked through the woods with bow in hand and a sheath on my back. I had set trapps earlier and am now waiting for animals to be trapped in them. It was more boring than usual because Katniss was at home sick and she (finally) let her mom take care of her for a little while. It was a shame really, it was such a nice day to go hunting. As I wait for animals to be trapped, I pick berries for the Mayor.
I've waited long enough. I thought. I should check the traps.
I walk toward my first trap and find a squirrel, I stuff it into my pack. The second trap has nothing in it, which is odd. Maybe I should put it in a different spot next time, the animals probably got used to it being there already. I walked to my third trap and was surprised to see a wild dog! I haven't caught one in ages... I picked it up and stuffed it halfway into my bag because it was too big to fit.
I walked back to the fence of district 12, my home. I walked to a tree and but my bow and arrows in a bush beside the tree. I crawl between the broken wires of the fence and walk down the street. I walk to the mayor's house and leave the wild berries in front of the door. Next door is the baker's house, I knock on the door and give him the squirrel. He quickly grabs the squirrel and stuffs it into his own bag, afraid of being seen by his monster of a wife. His son Peeta waves to me from the corner of the room.
As I walk away from the house, I look around me just to make sure no one is following me and I dash around a corner and into an alley.

Reading Journal Week 1 - Literary Compare and Contrast

Within the past week, I started reading the Hunger Games. It is an amazing book written by Suzanne Collins. Its about a girl named Katniss and how she had a hard life in District 12, a section of the "wonderful" country of Panem, Then her sister was Chosen for the Hunger Games, a sport that chooses 2 kids from every district and makes them fight till only one remains alive. Katniss volunteers in place of her sister and is whisked off to the Capitol city of Panem to prepare for the games.
I can't help but notice how similar "The Hunger Games" and "Divergent" are. Both the people in "The Hunger Games" and the people in "Divergent" are living in a dystopian future. Both books have a strong leading female character, and are told from her view. Both books have a society that controls everything everybody does and both books have rebels that fight for freedom. Katniss (Hunger Games) and Tris/Beatrice (Divergent) both have a special talent, lovers, and a generally supportive family. At the beginnings of both books the characters don't really know what is happening outside their society, but eventually gain a better understanding.
I bet there are more similarities, but this is all I can think of now. Hope you liked this week's reading journal and please +1 me! :D
